Lindsay Lohan Naked as Marilyn Monroe

Lindsay Lohan has posed naked to reproduce a famous shoot of Marilyn Monroe... so famous, in fact, that it's known collectively in the industry as 'The Last Sitting' (done when Marilyn was 36).

And the really special part? Lindsay's pics were shot by the original photographer, Bert Stern.

I don't know about this. The pics are ok, I guess (I don't think they look great) but when someone makes a big move like this you always think 'why?', right?

I feel like I know why! Like I can see into Lindsay's scheming little head (not just into the curves and crevices of her bizarrely freckle-free rack). We all know that celebrity PR is a well-oiled machine, and that every move is executed for a reason. This shoot would have been discussed with Leslie Sloane-Zelnick (Lindsay's publicist) before it was approved and they would have analysed the impact it would have on the public imagination; how it would effect people's perception of Lindsay.

Here's what Linds decided (trust me on this):

Her wild-child reputation is sealed in stone, she can't do anything about it. She's been hitting the clubs since she was underage; photographs of her hanging out with Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and a troupe of red-faced hangers-on (all paralytically drunk) are so familiar they've become like a 'Precious Memories' photo album of mainstream culture. Her image is too far gone.

If this was high school, and her reputation had taken a dive, the only quick-fix would be to start hanging out with the in-crowd. What Lindsay's done with this shoot is pretty much the celebrity equivalent. She's aligned herself with the boozy actress everyone loves: Marilyn Monroe.

I will never appreciate these images on their artistic merits (Bert Stern or not) because the intention is too glaringly obvious. Monroe, too, had substance abuse issues ... I look at these and I feel like I can hear Lindsay saying:

'Yeah, I'm wild, but don't think of me as trashy and loose, think of me as turbulent and beautiful like Marilyn. Think of me that way, dammit!!'

Sorry, but no.

Loved this critique of Lindsay's shoot, and I totally agree with everything you've said. =) Wow, Lindsay. Just wow!

Thanks for posting this. I'd *heard* about this but had yet to see the pics for myself.
